KAU
KAU (pronounced kaʊ̯ ) is an instrumental band based in Brussels. Representing various European backgrounds, their coming- together is in the urban and free spirit of the city they grew up in. They combine synthetic music, heady melodies, electronic grooves and witty beatmaking to make heads bob.
KAU is a Cologne/Brussels-based instrumental trio that transcends genres by blending jazz, hip-hop, and electronic music. With impeccable mastery of drums, bass, and analog synthesizers, they create an enchanting atmosphere that makes heads bob and feet move.
Bound by friendship since the age of 13, the members of KAU draw from their jazz roots to incorporate dynamic rhythms and captivating grooves. Since 2020, they have been pushing the boundaries of their craft, constantly exploring new musical frontiers to deliver a sound that is both unique and electrifying.
KAU has already set ablaze some of Belgium’s most iconic venues, including Ancienne Belgique in Brussels and De Roma in Antwerp, where they opened for Alfa Mist. Their contagious energy has also left a mark at major festivals such as Dour Festival, Gent Jazz, Jazz à Liège, Jazz:Re:Found and Nuits Botanique, both in Belgium and abroad. KAU is more than just a trio. It’s an intense and unforgettable musical experience, an invitation to discover new sounds and be swept away by the rhythm.

Yunis
“Synthetic Traditions”—this is how Pan African Music described Yunis’ sound, where ritual meets electronics, memory dissolves into trance, and voice becomes movement. BoomKat called it “synth-led nightmare fuel,” while mastering engineer Heba Kadry noted: “There is something that is very nostalgic to me about his sound and yet extremely tight and a cut above what is expected from Shaa’bi music.”
Blurring the line between composition, performance, and sonic ritual, Yunis crafts immersive soundscapes that pull from forgotten oral traditions, experimental structures, and hypnotic energy. His music explores the liminal space between past and future, tradition and abstraction, body and sound—where trance, rhythm, and voice become tools of transformation.
Born in Egypt’s western Delta, Yunis is influenced by folk and ceremonial music, yet refuses to treat these traditions as relics. Instead, his work subverts the idea of “cultural revival” by approaching these forms as living, evolving sonic languages. His compositions weave together Zar rituals, Shaa’bi textures, polyrhythms, and electronic manipulations, creating a sound world both ancient and futuristic.
A boundary-pushing performer, Yunis has brought his sonic rituals to festivals, underground scenes, and contemporary art spaces across Europe, North Africa, and beyond. Through trance-inducing live sets, vocal research, and conceptual performance, he expands the possibilities of sound as a ritualistic, transformative force.

More about FRESH Thursdays…
FRESH happens every Thursday during our open seasons. It is a platform to bring you fresh new music served up alongside a homecooked plant based meal, board games and candles. It can be hard to get people out to hear music that they don’t know yet & this is why we decided to offer dinner as an incentive to try something new, these gigs are cosy, communal nights and often you get to hear completely new music for the very first time.
The music varies across multiple genres but it is usually fairly gentle listening type music & well suited to a relaxed Thursday night. The gigs are seated and during the sets the audience is very music focused & quiet with time to chat in between the sets and at the end when we keep the bar open.
We cook the food from scratch usually and dinner is well suited to lover of vegetables and wholesome cooking, it’s usually something like a dhal, veggie chilli, tacos, roast veg or similar, our base line is vegan sometimes with veggie options. We can cater for nut/gluten free meals, but nuts & gluten are used in the kitchen so if you have serious allergies please bear that in mind.
Doors at 7pm, we aim to get dinner ready by 8pm and will bring it to you when its ready… music usually starts around 8pm, sometimes later if it’s a busy night for food (we are a tiny team) and we aim to have the music finished by 10-10.15 pm. We can only guarantee dinner with advance tickets and these days we cap dinner at 60 meals and the food tickets do often sell out.
We hope/think it’s obvious that quality music and dinner for £10 is all about culture & community and that these events cost us money… If you can afford to purchase a higher level ‘Cobalt supporters‘ ticket we appreciate the additional help towards costs very much.
