“The latest Geordie set to make an impact on the wider British scene” Wonderland
Newcastle-based indie riser Heidi Curtis signs to AWAL and shares brand new single ‘Siren’ (video here), out today (January 22nd).
Hailing from North Shields and inspired by the likes of Fleetwood Mac, Kate Bush, Jeff Buckley and Florence & The Machine, Curtis creates a sound that’s both urgent and authentic, fronting a tight band that brings her vision to life.
Showcasing her powerhouse vocals in her first release of 2026, ‘Siren’ sees the enigmatic musician’s vivid songwriting truly come to the fore, kicking off what is sure to be a thrilling twelve months. Touted by the likes of DIY Magazine, Rolling Stone UK, Dork Magazine and Wonderland following the arrival of debut single ‘Undone’ in November, Curtis has also received airplay across BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 2 and BBC 6 Music.
With support slots ticked off with contemporaries such as Sam Fender, CMAT, Inhaler, Paolo Nutini and Ben Howard across the UK and Europe, the Geordie newcomer’s live prowess is developing at an impressive rate, with another instantly sold-out Newcastle headliner primed for March 7th, and a run of festival dates to follow.
Speaking ahead of its release, Curtis revealed: “On the surface ‘Siren’ is a vicious love story between a Siren and a sailor. However, underneath the story lies a deeper metaphor about a person and their vices. The siren in the song merely represents our desire as a species to turn to substance and pleasure, in order to soothe and numb our depressions. We’ve all seen the Siren and felt that pull towards her, some more than others, and no matter what it always ends badly. Inspired by my love of the sea, my heritage, connection to the water and folk myth, ‘Siren’ was born.
Heidi Curtis’ ‘Siren’ is out now via AWAL and available on all digital platforms.
