North Riding are a North East Americana and folk band featuring singer-songwriter Hayley McKay and multi-instrumentalist and producer David Neil Crabtree. Their music blends Americana roots with what they describe as Tees Valley soul, giving the songs a transatlantic influence without losing the regional identity underneath.
The project grew from time spent touring in the United States, with songs shaped by people, places and experiences gathered on the road. Their catalogue includes Frio River, Hopetown, Awendaw Green and the Frio River EP, while BBC Radio 2 support from Bob Harris has helped carry the music to a wider audience.
North Riding continue to bring that sound back to North East stages, including Newcastle dates alongside fellow regional songwriters. The contrast between American roots influences and a Tees Valley perspective is central to what makes the project feel distinct.
