We have invited a Northern jazz super-group to help us celebrate International Jazz Day and the anniversary of Jazz.Coop buying The Globe in 2014.
Duke Junction draws from a broad range of jazz influences, including Peter Bernstein, Art Pepper, Thelonious Monk, Larry Young, Jimmy Smith, and Duke Ellington (whose legacy inspired the band’s name). The group brings these influences to life through some of the finest musicians on the Northern jazz scene.
Nadim Teimoori -tenor saxophone
Jeff Hewer – guitar
Martin Longhawn – organ
Steve Hanley – drums
Nadim Teimoori on saxophone has performed with renowned artists such as Stan Tracey, Gareth Lockrane, Callum Au, and the BBC Concert Orchestra. Guitarist Jeff Hewer, a student of Peter Bernstein, John Abercrombie, and Barry Harris, frequently performs with his own ensembles. Martin Longhawn, an accomplished organist and one of the busiest musicians in the North, has worked with an array of artists, including Svarc Hanley Longhawn and Trio JDM. On drums, Steve Hanley is one of the most sought-after players in the scene, performing regularly with Family Band, Ubunye, and many others. By coincidence, Steve played at The Globe on International Jazz Day last year.
