Table Of Content
The Ouseburn date arrives as Little Barrie continue the next chapter of a career stretching back more than two decades. Their latest album Gravity Freeze follows 2025’s Electric War, giving the band another body of newer material to place alongside the songs that established them.
Little Barrie Newcastle at The Cluny
Led by guitarist and vocalist Barrie Cadogan with bassist Lewis Wharton, Little Barrie returned to work after the death of drummer Virgil Howe and later began collaborating with Malcolm Catto of The Heliocentrics. That collaboration has helped push the band further into blues, soul and psychedelic rock while keeping the lean grooves that have long been part of their sound.
Gravity Freeze began taking shape in late 2023 and was recorded at Rat Salad Studios in North London. The record arrived during a period in which Cadogan also continued high-profile touring and session work, but the Newcastle show puts the focus back on Little Barrie as a live band.
The Cluny is a natural setting for that approach. Its main room gives guitar bands enough space to sound full without losing the closeness that can make a smaller headline show feel more immediate.
Edgar Jones supports Little Barrie in Newcastle
Edgar Jones opens the night. Best known for fronting The Stairs, the Liverpool musician has also worked across garage rock, blues, psychedelic soul and jazz. That range gives the support slot a strong musical link to Little Barrie rather than feeling like a separate style bolted onto the bill.
With both artists drawing from older blues, soul and rock influences while reshaping them in their own way, the pairing should give the night a consistent feel from the opening set onwards.
Why this Newcastle date stands out
For audiences who have followed Little Barrie for years, the 22 September show offers a chance to hear the band’s newer direction in a venue well suited to their live sound. Meanwhile, anyone coming to them through Cadogan’s other work gets a more direct introduction to the group he has led for more than two decades.
