Shalala Bring Their Seven-Piece Funk Sound to The Globe, Newcastle

Newcastle group Shalala bring their full band to The Globe on Friday 9 October 2026, with a set promising funkier grooves than the jazz residency where the project first took shape. The show starts at 8pm, with doors at 7pm. Having come together quickly in late 2024 to play at a Byker bar, Shalala have developed into a seven-piece whose current sound puts rhythm, brass and guitar at the centre of the evening.

The advertised line-up is David Scott on vocals and guitar, Mike Tiverton on guitar, Steve Nash on trumpet, Sam Young on keys, Borys Mano on bass, Hugh Whitby on drums and Johnny Cavener on saxophone. Those seven distinct instrumental roles make this a different prospect from hearing the same songs performed by a stripped-back acoustic line-up.
