Suron Ki Mehfil Brings Ghazals and Bollywood Songs to ARC Stockton

Suron Ki Mehfil at ARC Stockton brings ghazals and popular Bollywood songs to Teesside on Saturday 10 October 2026. Presented by the Society of Indian Doctors, the 6.30pm programme is led by North East artists Kamalbir Singh and Priti Kaur, with a special tribute to celebrated ghazal singers Jagjit Singh and Chitra Singh.

Singh brings extensive experience in Indian classical music and ghazal performance. His career has taken him to the Royal Albert Hall, the Barbican, Ronnie Scott’s, Glastonbury Festival and the Royal Festival Hall, where he appeared with Paul Weller. He also became the first Indian-music artist to perform in the West End musical The Far Pavilions, while his composing credits include several stage productions.

Suron Ki Mehfil’s two distinctive voices

Kaur’s background combines formal Hindustani classical vocal training with film, broadcast and concert work. Her song “Promises” featured in the 2012 Bollywood film Unforgettable, and she has performed with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. More recently, she appeared at Wembley Stadium during the FA’s Faith and Football series in 2025.

The two singers will be joined by Gurprit Matharu on tabla, Jai Singh on keyboard, Kansia Pritchard on flute and clarinet, and Prashant Joshi on acoustic guitar. Therefore, this is more than a pair of vocal sets: the arrangements will have a full live ensemble capable of moving between the intimacy of ghazal and the broader sweep of Bollywood music.

ARC lists the reserved-seating event at approximately three and a half hours, including an interval. The advertised age guidance is 14+, with under-16s accompanied by an adult.
