groovetrain are a North East funk-soul supergroup built around musicians with deep links to the region’s live and entertainment scene. The band’s shows are designed for a full room, with a large ensemble sound that leans into groove, brass, soul and the kind of collective energy that works best on stage.
Pilgrim hosts the group’s annual SuperSunday live show, while groovetrain have also provided the band for Something in the Water at Newcastle Theatre Royal, connecting them with a much wider cast of North East singers, musicians and performers.
Fronted by Michael Lavery and featuring Si King, the project feels less like a fixed studio band and more like a meeting point for experienced regional players. That flexibility is part of the appeal, allowing the lineup and arrangements to grow around the scale of the event.
