Minotaurs are a six-piece band from South Shields whose music moves between acoustic folk, indie pop and post-rock. Formed in 2006, the group built a local following through infrequent but memorable live appearances, developing detailed arrangements and a melodic sound with a strong North East identity.
Their debut album, Eat Yr Hate, arrived in September 2011 after a quieter period in which the songs were refined away from the stage. Recorded in Northumberland with producer Arran Fisher, the record combines layered ensemble playing with themes including loss, co-dependence and the complicated pull of home.
Earlier tracks such as The Sun’s Gone Down But It’s Not Time To Stop and Gestalt show the same balance between folk-pop clarity and broader post-rock dynamics. In December 2026, Minotaurs return to Cluny 2 for Minotaurs & Friends, a fundraising show supporting Ovacome and reconnecting the band with a Newcastle audience.
