GVLLOW’s music crosses several scenes rather than sitting within one genre. His early experiences in Southern California’s punk community led him towards the drums and the sounds of bands such as TSOL and The Adicts. Later, he worked as a DJ and producer in the underground rap scene, before developing the gothic guitar and electronic textures that feature in his solo work.
GVLLOW at Anarchy Brew Co: from punk to darkwave
The Newcastle date offers an opportunity to hear material from different stages of that journey. His self-titled album, released in 2020, features guest appearances by Travis Barker, Brennan Savage and TSOL’s Jack Grisham. Its songs include “Fear”, “Johnny Cash” and “Last Dance”. Rather than remaining with the same sound, GVLLOW moved further towards post-punk and darkwave with the Spiritwalker EP in 2021.
That development continued through his 2022 releases, including Suffer, and his 2024 album Twin Flames. These records draw together guitar-led melodies, electronic production and the darker tones associated with goth music. For listeners who came to GVLLOW through the earlier material, the Newcastle performance offers a chance to hear how those influences connect across his catalogue.
