Table Of Content
Titled Never Say Goodbye, the November tour marks Cornwell’s first run of UK solo acoustic performances since 2017. It will draw on a songwriting career stretching from his years as lead singer and songwriter with The Stranglers through to his extensive solo catalogue, while also giving audiences an early chance to hear material from his next studio album, Succubus.

Hugh Cornwell brings Never Say Goodbye to Whitley Bay
Cornwell was central to The Stranglers during the band’s classic period, contributing to a catalogue that combined punk and new wave energy with a distinctly individual approach to songwriting. Across ten albums with the group, he helped create songs including Golden Brown, No More Heroes and Always the Sun before developing a substantial body of solo work.
His most recent studio album, Moments of Madness, arrived in 2022, and the Whitley Bay date will look both backwards and forwards. Alongside familiar songs from The Stranglers and Cornwell’s solo career, the set is expected to feature new material from Succubus for the first time on this tour.
The stripped-back format should make this a particularly revealing way to hear the songs. With only Cornwell, a guitar and microphone on stage, the emphasis falls directly on the writing, the stories behind the music and the connection between performer and audience.
An open Q&A as part of the show
The evening will also include an open-mic Q&A, giving fans the opportunity to put questions directly to Cornwell. That conversational element makes the show more than a conventional acoustic set and should offer a closer look at a career spanning more than five decades.
Cornwell has described Never Say Goodbye as his final solo acoustic tour, saying: “I’m not sure how much longer I can continue to perform, and so this will be my final solo acoustic tour.”
