Aldo Betto, Blake Franchetto and Youssef Ait Bouazza arrive on Tyneside between dates in Manchester and London. The run follows the February release of their latest album Behind The Eyes and a sold-out Italian club tour in March.
Savana Funk bring Làbas to Cobalt Studios
Làbas continues Savana Funk’s blend of funk, rock, blues and African influences while pushing further into the musical languages and traditions that have shaped their career. The track combines Darija and Moroccan Arabic lyrics with African and Mediterranean grooves.
The recording also expands the trio’s sound with Andrea Beninati on cello, Max Castlunger on percussion and Riccardo Onori on saxophone. It follows the broader palette of Behind The Eyes, which was produced by Tommaso Colliva, known for his Grammy-winning work with Muse and for creating Calibro 35.
Formed in Bologna in 2015, Savana Funk have built their reputation around live performance. Their sound has increasingly incorporated Afro-Cosmic Disco, including work with international producer Gaudi, while groove remains at the centre of the band’s approach.
The trio’s previous festival appearances include Firenze Rocks with Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sherwood Festival with Seun Kuti, A Cielo Aperto with Kokoroko and Tanta Robba with Nu Genea. During 2025 they also toured Indonesia, performed at London’s ILMC and appeared at Sziget Festival in Budapest.
Newcastle is the middle date of Savana Funk’s three-show UK run. They play Copper Bar at Band on the Wall in Manchester on 8 October before heading to Cobalt Studios on 9 October and Folklore Hoxton in London on 10 October.
