Single Review: Pearly Gates ‘CURATED’
Pearly Gates turns the pressure of living a perfectly curated life into an infectious dance track with plenty happening beneath the surface.

“Everything is clean, it’s all been curated, even my small talk is AI generated”
Yeah okay, fair enough.
In a world where you’re judged based on not only how many followers you have or how often you post, but how well crafted and dare I say it – how well “curated” your content is, comes this absolute bop from Pearly Gates.
“CURATED” is a dance track, don’t get me wrong, but you can absolutely listen to this on the Metro whilst staring introspectively into the empty seat opposite you, whilst getting lost in the lyricism that makes you slowly realise that you’re probably living in a simulation.
Nonetheless, it’s not my goal to make you suffer an existential crisis, it’s to tell you about this song. Like I said before, it’s a dance bop – crafted expertly by Tom Hunt (Pearly Gates) – it kind of reminds me of Harry Styles’ latest body of work a bit, a compliment by the way. It’s got great balance and is mixed wonderfully.
One thing I really like about the musical composition is the differing experience between listening to it on my phone and listening to it through headphones. There are a lot of “hidden” noises in the mix that tickle the ears wonderfully and you don’t get the same experience through just a phone speaker.
It wants you to put your phone away.
I miss iPods.
“CURATED” is out on 1 October. Enjoy.
