Single Review: Reverie ‘Fly’
Sam Heppenstall reviews Reverie’s Fly, a dark and heavy new single featuring crushing guitars and soaring vocals.
I watched Underworld recently, and I can’t help but think this song would be a perfect fit for it.
Reverie have released their latest offering, ‘Fly’ – a song that was pieced together over time. Lyrically, it was one of the first songs the band ever wrote together, reworked to fit the Reverie mould. It’s heavy: crushing guitars getting lifted from the depths by some angelic vocals. Seriously, I cannot understate how good these vocals are! At times, I can hear shades of Matthew Bellamy.
As I touched upon earlier, this song belongs in the underworld, where everyone dresses like a vampire and beats the living hell out of each other. Its opening lines, followed by the gritty, dark, dirty instrumentation, pull you right into that world. The more I listen to this track, the more I feel like I’m being drawn into darkness, but in the best way possible. It feels comfortable and warm.
Reverie have not been a band for very long, but they are already making a big name for themselves on the local heavier scene. I cannot wait to see where they go from here. This song is phenomenal. It’s expertly written for such a young group of musicians, and I feel like they can only get better from here.
