Durham Folk Festival Sunday highlights
Newcastle’s Monster Ceilidh Band bring their modern approach to English ceilidh music to the Sunday programme from 2pm to 4pm. The band have spent more than 15 years combining traditional dance music with a contemporary live energy, while performances have taken them across Europe and further afield. Tickets for this individual event are listed at £15.
Later, the festival returns firmly to North East voices for its closing concert at Redhills Durham Miners Hall. The Wilson Family appear alongside The Welfare Collective and Benny Graham from 7pm to 9.30pm. The Wilsons’ repertoire draws heavily on songs from Teesside and the wider region; meanwhile, The Welfare Collective combine a folk-rooted sound with the brass tradition of the Durham coalfield. Benny Graham adds another established North East voice to the closing bill.
Johnny Handle also features in the wider farewell programme. Consequently, the final evening is more than a collection of separate performances: it connects regional song, industrial heritage and community music inside the restored Miners Hall.
