Mercury Prize Fringe brings 16 gigs to Newcastle

Mercury Prize Fringe Newcastle is returning with 16 gigs and more than 40 artists performing across the city as part of a week-long celebration of live music and culture.

Powered by Generator and programmed with local promoters, venues and partners, the 2026 programme moves between Afrobeats, rap, R&B, soul, electronic music, drone rock, pop and heavier sounds. All events are either free or Pay As You Feel, although advance booking is required.

Mercury Prize Fringe Newcastle showcases

Three of the newly announced showcases take place on Friday 16 October. The Northern Roots Showcase heads to Pilgrim for an evening of Afrobeats, rap, R&B and soul, bringing together live performances and DJ sets with a focus on high energy and authentic storytelling.

Meanwhile, The Cumberland Arms hosts two contrasting events. The F54 Showcase explores euphoric and cathartic electronica, with mechanical and repetitive rhythms reflecting the industrial history and musical innovation of the North.

The Tyne & Queer Showcase also comes to The Cumberland Arms, promising an expansive, heavy and atmospheric night featuring BONG II, THRAA and GREET.

A city-wide week of live music

The wider Mercury Prize Fringe programme spreads across Newcastle, giving audiences the chance to move between grassroots venues and discover artists working across very different parts of the region’s music scene.
