Anarchy in the U.K Tour Newcastle: 50 years on from punk’s ignition point
The tour centres on three members of the Sex Pistols — guitarist Steve Jones, drummer Paul Cook and bassist Glen Matlock — joining forces with Frank Carter on vocals. That line-up gives the show a direct connection to one of the defining bands of the original UK punk explosion while also bringing a frontman from a later generation into the set.
Live Nation describes the tour as a celebration of 50 years of punk, with the focus squarely on the music that helped redraw the boundaries of British rock in 1976. Jones, Cook and Matlock remain central figures in that history, and Carter brings the kind of physical, confrontational live presence associated with his work across Gallows and his own solo career. citeturn849037search2
The Newcastle date sits inside a wider December run that also visits Leeds, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Liverpool, Birmingham, Portsmouth, Bristol and London. That gives O2 City Hall a place in a full UK celebration rather than a one-off nostalgia appearance.
What makes this line-up interesting is the way it avoids pretending time has stood still. Rather than recreating 1976 exactly, it puts original players alongside a younger vocalist whose own career was shaped by the energy punk left behind.
For Newcastle, that should mean a set built around songs with decades of cultural weight but delivered by musicians who still treat them as live material rather than museum pieces.
