Fred Chyke is a Newcastle-based artist working around Afrofusion and Afrobeats, bringing West African rhythmic influence together with a wider pop and dance sensibility. His music is built to move, but the writing also carries a strong sense of personality and cultural connection.
The 2025 single Nnenna blends Afrobeats with a Caribbean calypso influence, giving the track a bright, celebratory feel while keeping Chyke’s own vocal presence at the centre. More recent material including Ije Love has continued that development and widened the emotional side of the project.
In October 2026, Chyke appears at Pilgrim Newcastle through the Northern Roots programme alongside The Gift, performing with a live house band. It is a useful step beyond a standard showcase slot, giving his music the space and live instrumentation to feel bigger in the room.
