Ed Cosens brings Songs With Friends to The Glasshouse
Ed Cosens brings Songs With Friends and his solo catalogue to The Glasshouse Gateshead on 6 December 2026.
Sheffield singer-songwriter Ed Cosens heads to Gateshead on Sunday 6 December 2026, rounding out his autumn and winter dates with a show at The Glasshouse.
The show arrives during a period in which Cosens has deliberately pushed his music beyond the setting most closely associated with his past. After almost two decades as guitarist, songwriter and musical director with Reverend And The Makers, his solo work has increasingly placed the emphasis on carefully constructed songs, collaboration and a more intimate style of performance.

His latest project, Songs With Friends, takes that idea further. Developed from an Instagram series recorded during songwriting trips, the EP brings Cosens together with Beth Nielsen Chapman, Toby Lee, James Walsh, Jean Rohe and Daisy Chute to explore songs by artists including Neil Young, Fleetwood Mac, The Everly Brothers, Simon & Garfunkel and Creedence Clearwater Revival.
One of its key collaborations is I Need Your Love So Bad with young blues guitarist Toby Lee. Cosens first met Lee at a songwriting camp in Texas and later invited him onto the project with the idea of tackling the guitar language of Peter Green. The result gives the EP a useful indication of what Cosens is looking for from this chapter: familiar songs approached through the personality of the musicians playing them rather than treated as straightforward reproductions.

The Glasshouse setting should suit that approach particularly well. Cosens has two solo albums behind him — 2021’s Fortunes Favour and 2024 follow-up Somewhere Between Dark and Light — alongside a catalogue stretching back through his work with Reverend And The Makers. He is also working towards another EP later in 2026 and a third full-length solo album.
His wider songwriting CV reaches well beyond his own records, with collaborations and sessions involving Richard Hawley, Elles Bailey, Michele Stodart, Tony Christie and others. That experience, coupled with the collaborative nature of the new EP, gives the Gateshead show plenty of scope to move between different stages of his career.
Ed Cosens plays The Glasshouse, Gateshead on Sunday 6 December 2026. Further ticket and timing information should be checked with the venue before travelling.
