Home Alone in Concert
Home Alone in Concert comes to The Glasshouse as part of its Christmas 2026 programme. Find the date, venue details and official ticket information.
Home Alone is returning to the big screen at The Glasshouse this Christmas, but this time John Williams’ score will be happening live in the room.
Royal Northern Sinfonia perform alongside the film in Sage One across Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 December, with Ben Palmer conducting and Voices of the Rivers’ Edge and Quay Voices also taking part.
Home Alone with a live orchestra
At this point, plenty of us could probably quote chunks of Home Alone without much help. Watching it with a full orchestra underneath it, though, changes the experience completely. Williams’ music is a huge part of what makes the film feel like Christmas, even when Kevin is setting increasingly questionable traps around the house.
The live-to-film format lets the movie play as normal on the big screen while the musicians perform the score in sync. It means you still get all the familiar moments, but with the weight of Royal Northern Sinfonia in Sage One rather than the soundtrack coming through cinema speakers.
It should be a particularly good introduction to orchestral music for younger audiences too. There’s no need to know anything about classical music beforehand — you already know the film, and the orchestra becomes part of something familiar.
The Glasshouse has several film-with-live-music events in its Christmas programme this year, including Home Alone 2, The Muppet Christmas Carol and The Snowman, but the original Home Alone remains hard to beat as a December favourite.
