Jess Gillam Ensemble
Jess Gillam Ensemble comes to The Glasshouse as part of its Christmas 2026 programme. Find the date, venue details and official ticket information.
Jess Gillam returns to The Glasshouse on Thursday 10 December with an ensemble built for jumping between musical worlds rather than staying neatly in one box.
The saxophonist’s live shows can move through classical, folk and contemporary music without making those shifts feel forced, and Sage Two should be a strong setting for that mix.
Jess Gillam Ensemble return to Gateshead
Gillam has become one of the most recognisable young classical musicians in the UK, but what makes these ensemble shows interesting is how little they rely on the usual boundaries around classical performance. The programme can move somewhere unexpected without losing its shape, and the saxophone gives everything a distinctive centre.
That should make this a good choice for people who like live instrumental music but don’t necessarily spend much time at conventional classical concerts. There’s virtuosity there, obviously, but the point is still to make the music connect rather than turn the evening into an exam.
The December date comes during The Glasshouse’s Christmas programme, although this isn’t simply another festive singalong. It offers a change of pace between the larger seasonal productions in Sage One and gives Sage Two a more intimate, genre-crossing night.
If you’ve seen Gillam at The Glasshouse before, you’ll know the room suits her. If you haven’t, this feels like a good place to start.
