Christmas at The Glasshouse with Matt Baker
Christmas at The Glasshouse with Matt Baker comes to The Glasshouse as part of its Christmas 2026 programme. Find the date, venue details and official ticket information.
Matt Baker returns to Gateshead on Thursday 17 December for Christmas at The Glasshouse, joining Royal Northern Sinfonia and a big cast of North East voices in Sage One.
Associate Conductor Ellie Slorach, Chorus of Royal Northern Sinfonia and Voices of the Rivers’ Edge are all part of the evening, which mixes festive music with seasonal stories and a proper sense of occasion.
Matt Baker joins Royal Northern Sinfonia
Baker is a familiar face to audiences across the country, but his North East roots make this feel like a particularly natural Christmas booking for The Glasshouse. Rather than simply presenting the evening from the side of the stage, he becomes part of a programme built around music, storytelling and the people performing it.
Royal Northern Sinfonia are everywhere across the festive season, from their Winter Tour around the region to the live film concerts later in December. Here, though, the orchestra are joined by both the Chorus and Voices of the Rivers’ Edge, giving the show a broad community feel alongside the scale of Sage One.
By 17 December, Christmas is close enough that nobody needs to pretend it’s too early anymore. This feels like one of those nights designed to properly tip you into the final festive week.
It should also appeal to a wider audience than a straight orchestral concert, with the stories and presentation giving the evening a relaxed route into the music.
