Sinfonia of London bring A Christmas Songbook to Sage One on Wednesday 16 December, right in the middle of a run of festive concerts at The Glasshouse.

The orchestra’s Gateshead date gives Christmas music the full concert-hall treatment, making this one for anyone who wants the scale of Sage One and an orchestral sound rather than a smaller seasonal show.

Sinfonia of London in Sage One

There’s a particular pleasure in hearing familiar Christmas music played by a large ensemble. Songs you’ve heard countless times can suddenly feel fresh again when the arrangements have enough space and detail around them, and Sage One is built for exactly that kind of sound.

The concert comes the night after Scottish Christmas Songbook and a day before Christmas at The Glasshouse with Matt Baker, so audiences have three very different takes on seasonal music across three consecutive evenings.

That variety is one of the stronger things about The Glasshouse’s 2026 Christmas programme. You can go from folk-rooted material to a full orchestral songbook, then into a broader festive celebration with Royal Northern Sinfonia and the venue’s choirs.

For this night, though, the orchestra gets the focus. If your Christmas calendar needs one big concert in Sage One, this is firmly in the running.
