Single Review: Hannah Robinson ‘You Won’t Ever Know’
Hannah Robinson’s ‘You Won’t Ever Know’ explores isolation, abandonment and invisibility through a dissonant, shoegaze-heavy sound.
A song all about the perils of isolation – Hannah Robinson’s latest offering “You won’t ever know” caps off her latest run of releases in typical fashion! A shoegaze heavy, dissonant and well written song that feels like it was made for an October release.
I’m a big fan of Hannah’s music, ever since the release of “Ruining the moment” I’ve been looking forward to what comes next. Like I said earlier, this song explores isolation, but it also explores some other touchy subjects as well such as abandonment and the feeling of being totally invisible – and the torment that can bring.
You’re screaming, trying to get the attention of anyone you can but nobody seems to want to listen. Myself and I’m sure a lot of others listening can relate to this feeling. The cries for help just bounce off like you’re on the inside of an echo chamber.
“You won’t ever know, because you never ask, I’d rather stay alone, than bleed behind this mask”
I love the use of the word “bleed” here, it’s such a creative choice. There are lots of words that would fit and still carry well, but to use a word like this conveys pain and misery. Saying that you would rather be by yourself than suffer by hiding behind a mask to please others. Really cool.
