“Today” by Tim Gambles proved to be a difficult song to record. According to his own notes – this song was written over a decade ago. I love stories like these, to be able to carry a song with you for so long and go through so much – to finally record it must have felt like an emotional release.

The song starts off with the sound of waves crashing on the shore and a droning synth sound, then he brings in some gorgeously played piano and soft, intimate vocals. For any fans of “Amber Run” this track reminds me a lot of them.
Lyrically, the song seems to be all about making difficult choices, something it seems Tim isn’t a stranger to.
Let’s talk about that ending, wow. The crescendo of all the instrumentation including a gritty electric guitar combined with numerous vocal takes and harmonies to create a swell of emotion, like a tidal wave finally crashing and breaking against the shoreline. The vocoder effect as well giving it a classic rock feel. Stunning.
The song ends just as it started, with the droning synth and sounds of the sea – alluding to the cyclical nature of having to make difficult choices, there will always be another one.
“Today” is now available to stream on all major platforms.
