The Dishwasher Launches at The Cluny with a Community-Led Approach to Newcastle’s Alternative Music

The Dishwasher, a new community-led alternative music night organised by Dish, Texas, launches at The Cluny in Newcastle on Saturday 24 October 2026. Its opening line-up brings together Newbuilds, The Beauty Pageant, Spider Noises and Dish, Texas.

The idea behind the night is simple: people who come along to watch should have the chance to become part of the show. Artists attending as audience members can register their interest with the organisers and put themselves forward to play a future edition. Whether they are already in a band, making music solo or considering their first project, The Dishwasher wants to help them meet other musicians and find an audience.

The Dishwasher brings different corners of Newcastle’s alternative scene together

Rather than treating alternative music as a single sound, the organisers want each show to introduce audiences to different parts of the city’s independent scene. The first bill features four bands – Newbuilds, The Beauty Pageant, Spider Noises and Dish, Texas – with artist spotlights available on The Dishwasher’s Instagram page.

The aim is to build an open, collaborative local music community in which the line between audience and performer can change from one event to the next. Fans can discover new bands, while musicians can meet prospective collaborators and make themselves known to the organisers.
