Gorka Márquez is swapping the Strictly ballroom for Sage One when Xmas on the Dancefloor comes to The Glasshouse on Monday 7 December.

The new festive dance show brings together live singers, a cast of dancers and the Xmas Dolls, with ballroom, Latin, contemporary and commercial dance all worked into a soundtrack of Christmas favourites and pop anthems.

This isn’t being pitched as a quiet festive dance recital. The idea is much bigger and brighter than that, with different dance styles crossing over throughout the night and live vocals adding another layer to the production.

Gorka will obviously be the familiar face for Strictly viewers, but the scale of the cast should make this feel like a full company show rather than a star vehicle. That matters in Sage One, where there’s plenty of space to fill.

It also gives The Glasshouse Christmas programme something a little different. There are orchestras, folk shows, film concerts and singalongs throughout December, while this one puts dance right at the centre.

If you’re the person who watches Strictly every weekend, or you just fancy a Christmas show with a bit more energy than the traditional options, this should be an easy one to circle in the calendar.
