Amelia Coburn unveils dark new single I Just Want To Say
Middlesbrough's Amelia Coburn releases I Just Want To Say ahead of second album Myself and Other Monsters and a Gateshead headline show.
Middlesbrough singer-songwriter Amelia Coburn has released I Just Want To Say, a darkly playful new single that introduces her second album, Myself and Other Monsters, arriving on 5 March 2027.
Table Of Content
Released on 7 October, the track finds Coburn telling a love story from an unusual angle: an unreliable narrator writing to a serial killer. What begins with the language of devotion gradually reveals something far more unsettling, as attraction and obsession become difficult to separate.
Amelia Coburn explores obsession on I Just Want To Say
The idea draws on hybristophilia, the attraction some people experience towards criminals. Rather than approaching the subject as a straightforward confession, Coburn gives the song a character of its own, allowing the listener to question just how much of the narrator’s account can be trusted.
It is an intriguing introduction to the next chapter of Coburn’s music. Her songs have long made room for eccentric characters, dark humour and striking imagery, and this release pushes that storytelling into more uncomfortable territory without losing the distinctive personality behind it.
An accompanying video adds another dimension to the release, drawing on Coburn’s fascination with cinema and the macabre.

A second album with Bill Ryder-Jones
Myself and Other Monsters reunites Coburn with producer Bill Ryder-Jones, who also worked on her debut album, Between the Moon and the Milkman. The forthcoming record explores the less comfortable sides of human nature through a cast of characters, with arrangements incorporating strings, brass and layered harmonies.
Paul Weller also contributes to the album, continuing a musical connection that has seen Coburn perform alongside him and appear on his record Find El Dorado.
For an artist whose roots are firmly in Teesside, the new material marks another step in a career that has already taken her to venues and audiences well beyond the North East.
