Frankie Archer Brings The Dance of Death to The Glasshouse

Frankie Archer at The Glasshouse brings one of the North East’s most distinctive new folk voices to Sage Two on Sunday 27 September 2026. The Consett-born musician and producer arrives in Gateshead with The Dance of Death, her debut album, for a headline show that places traditional song, Northumbrian fiddle and electronic production side by side.

Released on 5 June, The Dance of Death is built around archival ballads dealing with obsession, devotion, mortality and loss. Archer reshapes that material with processed vocals, pulsing drum machines, synths and manipulated fiddle lines rather than treating the songs as fixed pieces of history. The record was co-produced with Guy Massey and includes songs such as “Death and The Maiden”, “The Outlandish Knight”, “The Unquiet Grave” and “The Demon Lover”.

The Glasshouse date also forms part of Archer’s The Dance of Death tour. Her own tour schedule lists the Gateshead show before dates in Liverpool, London, Bristol and Birmingham, while her website says these performances will feature her with a band for the first time. That should give the Sage Two show a different scale from some of the solo performances that first brought her wider attention.

Archer has already appeared on Later… With Jools Holland, at the BBC Proms and in BBC Glastonbury coverage, while previous support slots have included The Futureheads and The Last Dinner Party. Her sound sits somewhere between contemporary folk and electronic music, but the traditional source material remains central to what she does.

The show takes place in Sage Two at The Glasshouse International Centre for Music on Sunday 27 September, with the performance listed for 8pm. Tickets are £18 through The Glasshouse. Ages 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult, and stage times beyond the advertised start are due to be confirmed nearer the show.
