Frankie Archer is a folk artist from Consett who has become closely associated with Newcastle’s contemporary folk scene. Her music combines traditional song, Northumbrian fiddle and voice with manipulated samples, synths, drum programming and electronic production, giving old material a strikingly modern frame.
Releases including Never So Red, Pressure and Persuasion and the 2026 album The Dance of Death show how Archer works with archival ballads and regional traditions without treating them as museum pieces. The fiddle and vocal melodies remain recognisably rooted in folk, while the production brings in rhythm, texture and tension from electronic music.
That approach has taken her to Later… With Jools Holland, national radio and festivals around the UK. Her 2026 tour includes a headline date at The Glasshouse in Gateshead on 27 September, bringing a record steeped in traditional song back to a major North East stage.
