Two bands with strong Newcastle connections are heading to Birmingham for Ascendancy Festival 2027. The Wildhearts and Venom Inc. are both on the official bill for the four-day rock and metal event at Thornborough Events, King’s Norton, from 27–30 May 2027.

It is a line-up that gives the North East a place at a festival built around the meeting point between established heavy music and the grassroots bands coming through behind it. The booking information is already public, although neither act’s individual stage time has been confirmed in the official programme checked.
The Wildhearts bring their Newcastle roots to Birmingham
The Wildhearts were formed in Newcastle in 1989 and have spent much of their career moving between hard rock, punk energy and melody. Their catalogue has given them a lasting following well beyond Tyneside, but the band’s North East beginnings remain part of their story.
Ascendancy’s official 2027 line-up places The Wildhearts among its special guests. It is another festival appearance for the band, who are also confirmed for ArcTanGent 2027 in Gloucestershire. Those are separate bookings: ArcTanGent has advertised a special progressive set, while Ascendancy has not specified a particular set format. There is no reason to assume the two performances will be the same.

Venom Inc. continue a North East metal connection
Venom Inc. also feature on the festival’s official artist list. The band grew out of the history of Newcastle metal pioneers Venom, with singer and bassist Tony ‘Demolition Man’ Dolan born in Wallsend. Dolan’s earlier work with Atomkraft and Venom gives this appearance a particularly strong connection to the region’s heavy music history.
For anyone following North East metal, seeing The Wildhearts and Venom Inc. on the same festival bill is a reminder of how far the area’s guitar music has travelled. The two acts approach heavy music from different directions, but both have connections to a scene that has produced influential bands for decades.

What to know about Ascendancy Festival 2027
Ascendancy follows the long-running Breaking Bands Festival, which championed smaller rock and metal acts. The new event keeps a dedicated Breaking Bands stage alongside the Ascendancy stage, where more established names sit on the bill. The festival is at Thornborough Events, Redhill Road, King’s Norton, Birmingham, B38 9EH. The organiser’s four-day ticket covers Thursday 27 through Sunday 30 May, with camping available into Monday. Ticket types, travel arrangements and accessibility information are set out on the official festival website.
Individual days, stages and set times for The Wildhearts and Venom Inc. are not yet confirmed in the official information checked. For the latest names, see the official 2027 line-up and use the organiser’s ticket page for booking.
