History of Utilita Arena Newcastle
The arena opened in November 1995 and was developed from a vision associated with former Animals musician Chas Chandler and Nigel Stanger. David Bowie played the venue during its opening period, and it has since welcomed generations of major touring artists, sports events and entertainment productions.
Today the arena is operated by Legends Global and remains one of the North East’s biggest indoor event spaces, with more than 40,000 square metres of space and seating for over 11,500 visitors depending on the event configuration.

Getting to Utilita Arena Newcastle
By Metro and train: Newcastle Central Station is the nearest major transport hub, with National Rail, Metro and local bus connections. The arena is around a 10-minute walk from the Central Station area.
By bus: Numerous local services stop around Central Station, while Eldon Square and Haymarket bus stations are also within walking distance.
By car: The arena has more than 600 official parking spaces at the rear of the building. Parking charges apply and payment is handled through RingGo. Accessible parking is available for Blue Badge holders subject to availability.
Drop-off: The venue recommends Railway Street for drop-off. Traffic management can change on event nights, so allow extra time around large shows.
