Jimmy Nail

Jimmy Nail is a Newcastle-born singer, songwriter, musician, actor and writer whose work has become closely tied to North East culture. His music career includes the UK number-one single “Ain’t No Doubt”, the top-three recording of “Love Don’t Live Here Anymore” and the songs connected with Crocodile Shoes.

Before his television breakthrough, Nail performed on Newcastle’s music scene as the singer with the King Crabs. He later became widely known for playing Oz in Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, the title role in Spender and Jed Shepperd in Crocodile Shoes, while continuing to release music shaped by rock, pop, soul and country influences.

His songs often carry a strong sense of place, character and working-class life. That connection with Tyneside has remained central throughout a career spanning records, television, film, theatre and writing.

His 2026 programme includes Stories and Songs at The Glasshouse International Centre for Music in Gateshead, giving North East audiences another opportunity to hear material associated with one of the region’s most recognisable performers.
