Fenwick Fan Zone brings Live Lounge sessions to Mercury Prize day

The Fenwick Fan Zone Live Lounge Sessions will bring six North East artists into The Tavern at Fenwick Newcastle on Thursday 22 October 2026, building towards the Mercury Prize ceremony later that day.

Running from noon until 6pm, the event is designed as a Live Lounge-style fan zone rather than a conventional headline show. Six artists from across the North East will be selected through a Generator open call, and each performer will play original material alongside an acoustic cover from one of this year’s Mercury Prize-shortlisted albums.

The format gives the showcase a strong connection to the wider prize while still keeping local artists at the centre. Audiences will be able to hear new North East music alongside fresh takes on tracks from the shortlisted records, creating a direct link between the regional scene and the albums being celebrated at Utilita Arena later that evening.

The final six performers have not yet been announced, so SoundBite is keeping the line-up open until Generator confirms the selected artists. That matters here because the open call is part of the event itself. The successful musicians will not simply be filling support slots; each gets a dedicated performance and a chance to reinterpret one of the year’s Mercury-nominated records.

The Tavern at Fenwick also gives the event a city-centre setting for anyone already in Newcastle for Mercury Prize day. As well as the performances, Generator describes the Fan Zone as a place for fans to spend time with the shortlisted albums, meet other music fans and take in the atmosphere before the awards.
