The Toronto songwriter works across voice, fingerstyle guitar, piano and harmonica, building songs that can feel spacious, shadowed and quietly cinematic. Lapell’s music is often described through phrases such as prairie noir and Canadiana desert rock. Those labels point towards the atmosphere in her writing: acoustic foundations, open horizons and a darker edge that keeps the songs from settling into comfortable folk convention. Her latest album, Anniversary, arrived in May 2024 through Outside Music. Lapell tours widely across North America and Europe, and this Newcastle date places her in a venue well suited to attentive listening.
