The British four-piece arrive with a reputation for high-octane live shows and a catalogue built for loud rooms, while Christchurch, New Zealand rockers Pieces of Molly open the night. Asomvel at The Cluny: new material and maximum volume
Asomvel released Born to Rock ’n’ Roll in March 2024 and have spent the period since pushing its direct, fast-moving hard rock far beyond the UK. Their recent live run has included sold-out dates as main support to Airbourne, a European tour with Wolfmother and festival appearances at Barcelona Rock Fest and Bloodstock Open Air. That experience matters for a Cluny show: this is a band used to delivering the same force whether the stage sits in a compact club or on an international festival site.
The Newcastle date also arrives at a useful point in the group’s story. Asomvel have completed work on another album, while 2026 brings further touring with Airbourne and major festival dates. That makes this more than a retrospective pass through the last record. There is a realistic chance for the set to carry the urgency of a band already moving into its next chapter, even as songs from Born to Rock ’n’ Roll continue to anchor the show.
Pieces of Molly add a well-matched opening blast. Hailing from Christchurch, the group describe their sound as primal rock and roll, with heavy riffs, blues-rock weight and a restless live energy. Their 2022 self-titled album established that approach, while 2026 singles including “Don’t Take Me To The Disco (You Call Rock N Roll)” and “Alligator” have kept the momentum moving. With the support crossing from New Zealand for a run of UK dates, the bill has a properly international edge without losing its straightforward rock-club purpose.
