The Fiend Club Band Newcastle puts horror punk at the centre of Halloween
The Cluny show pairs a full Misfits tribute with a Ramones set from Carbona Not Glue, turning Halloween night into a two-band celebration of the punk lineage that helped shape horror punk. That connection gives the bill more coherence than simply placing two unrelated tribute acts together.
The Fiend Club Band draw from both the Glenn Danzig and Michale Graves eras of The Misfits, which opens the set to several different phases of the catalogue. The appeal is not only the familiar skull imagery and horror references; the strongest Misfits songs are short, melodic and built for loud communal singalongs, which should suit The Cluny’s packed main room.
31 years of Carbona Not Glue

There is another reason for Ramones fans to get down early, with Carbona Not Glue bringing more than three decades of their own history to the Halloween bill. The band have now been going for 31 years and still feature three original members, while even the relative newcomer behind the drums has been part of the group for 14 years.
Carbona Not Glue formed at a time when tribute bands were far less common than they are today. Their approach has never simply been about impersonation. Instead, the attraction is recreating the rush of hearing the Ramones at full tilt, with the band particularly drawn to the raw live sound captured on It’s Alive.
That long-running connection to the Ramones has produced a few memorable moments of its own. Carbona Not Glue have met former Ramones bassist CJ Ramone, who even left with one of their T-shirts — although, as the band are quick to clarify, they gave it to him rather than making him buy it.
Paired with The Fiend Club Band’s trip through the Misfits catalogue, it gives the night a stronger link between two bands whose music belongs together. The Ramones stripped punk down to speed, repetition and instantly recognisable hooks, while that influence runs directly through much of the music The Fiend Club Band will tackle later in the evening.
The date itself adds another layer. A Misfits tribute on 31 October does not need an artificial Halloween theme bolted on, because the songs already live in that world. Fancy dress is encouraged, but the core of the event remains the two live sets rather than a generic costume party.
The Cluny should make the whole thing feel suitably close and chaotic. The low stage, standing floor and compact room are better suited to fast punk songs than a polished theatre setting, and the audience should remain part of the atmosphere throughout.
