The March Violets Newcastle brings the Unnatural History Tour Pt2 to The Cluny on Sunday 1 November 2026. The Leeds post-punk band will revisit its formative catalogue while also making space for music created since reforming.
The band will play Natural History in full alongside other classics and new material. That gives the evening a clear backbone without turning it into a sealed nostalgia exercise. Instead, the old compilation becomes a route into the group’s wider story.
The March Violets Newcastle revisits an unusual debut
Natural History first appeared in 1984, although it wasn’t a conventional studio album. The March Violets had already built their name through six singles and BBC sessions. Consequently, the collection gathered a body of work that had developed across separate releases.
“Snake Dance”, “Religious As Hell” and “Crow Baby” all feature, while two John Peel session tracks add another layer. The original band emerged from Leeds in the early 1980s alongside the city’s growing gothic and post-punk scene. Their singles became regular fixtures in the UK independent charts.
The current tour also follows a new violet-vinyl reissue, the first since the 1980s. Its packaging recreates details from limited copies of the original, including a large lyric poster. Therefore, the live show and physical reissue work together as a proper return to the material.
However, the band’s recent activity matters too. The March Violets released Crocodile Promises in 2024, and further recordings are in progress. Their reformed line-up has also toured Britain, Europe and the United States.
The Cluny’s standing room should suit the sharper rhythms and darker atmosphere of these songs. Meanwhile, hearing the compilation in sequence may reveal connections that disappear when individual tracks are played alone.
Advance tickets cost £20 plus fees. The event is for ages 16 and over, with under-18s accompanied by an adult. A doors time is not currently shown.
