Sam Shields has one of the most unique voices on the local scene right now, it’s so easy to recognise. Sam’s latest release “The sound of the rain” is a very easy listen. Consisting of some beautifully recorded guitar and Sam’s vocals, this song feels very intimate – like you’re sitting in the room with him.

The track grows on you with every listen. I’ve had the whistling section stuck in my head for the past 36 hours. The subject matter seems to point towards a relationship that’s experiencing difficulties as he compares it to a storm rolling in from over the sea. That said, I’d say he’s quite elusive with his lyricism, it’s difficult to ascertain what he’s actually singing about.
Lyrics such as “I’ve never known a Winter like this one, I’ve never been down here before” indicate that whatever it is that Sam is writing about, it’s new to him and difficult for him to understand.
All in all I’d say that Sam has definitely caught my attention, I look forward to seeing what direction he goes in after this one.
“The sound of the rain” is now available to stream on all major platforms.
