Leeds upstarts Fuzz Lightyear share brand new track ‘Aberfan’, out today (October 14th), marking the third reveal from their ‘Zero Guilt’ EP, set for release November 21st via Nice Swan Records (English Teacher, Sprints, Westside Cowboy, Chalk).
Partnering with esteemed producer Alex Greaves (Yard Act, Working Men’s Club, Gurriers) for their extended release, ahead of a debut UK headline tour this December, ‘Aberfan’ follows pulsating lead singles ‘Sit Awake’ and ‘Berlin, 1885’, and arrives ahead of their festival appearance at Left Of The The Dial next weekend.
Fuelling a DIY ethos that birthed them, Fuzz Lightyear’s focus remains on sustained experimentation, community, and uninhibited rock and roll has already contributed to mammoth support throughout the press landscape (NME, DIY, Dork, Clash, So Young, The Line Of Best Fit, Rough Trade, Under The Radar) and across the BBC 6 Music (Steve Lamacq, Huw Stephens, Emily Pilbeam) and Radio X (John Kennedy) airwaves in recent months.
Armed with their thrilling live shows, the band have crafted a chaotic and impressive blend of shoegaze, industrial noise-rock, and fast-paced punk, somewhere between the sounds of Sonic Youth and Show Me The Body amongst others. Having been invited to tour and perform with acts like English Teacher, Adult DVD, Lambrini Girls and Jasmine.4.T, as well as more icons of punk new and old, the quartet have earned themselves a staunch, cult following across the UK.
Speaking ahead of their new release, frontman Ben Parry added: “Coming from the South Wales valleys I have always held the story of Aberfan close to my heart. It was the Grenfell of its time, a direct example of working class neglect. Growing up nearby it always served as a reminder to be wary of the corporate and political class. Maturing into adolescence my friends and I would always remind ourselves of Grenfell, of Tryweryn and Mynydd Epnyt to remain skeptical of the British – we are Welsh, not British.”
Produced by Alex Greaves, Fuzz Lightyear’s ‘Aberfan’ is out now via Nice Swan Records and available on all digital platforms.
Fuzz Lightyear is Ben Parry (vocals, guitar), Josh Taylor (drums), Varun Govil (bass), Alex Calder (synth, guitar)
