SwanNek are a contemporary jazz collective from Newcastle upon Tyne, using jazz as a starting point for music shaped by people, places and a broader modern palette. The project feels rooted in the city without being limited by a traditional idea of what a local jazz band should sound like.
A December 2026 appearance at Pilgrim places SwanNek firmly within Newcastle’s current live-jazz network. Support and recognition from musicians including Soweto Kinch and North East artist Shakk also gives the group a useful bridge between the regional scene and wider contemporary jazz audiences.
The collective format leaves room for the music to keep evolving as the players and arrangements develop, which suits a project still establishing its own identity through live performance.
