The Baskery Newcastle gig brings the Swedish sisters’ self-described banjopunk to Cluny 2 on Thursday 12 November 2026. Their music starts with roots and Americana, then turns those traditions towards punk energy, playful arrangements and a live style developed across hundreds of headline performances.
Why the Baskery Newcastle gig breaks folk rules
Baskery are three sisters who combine classic roots music and Americana with a deliberately rule-breaking punk approach. That mixture gives familiar acoustic forms a sharper physical edge, allowing delicacy and close family interplay to sit alongside the urgency of a rock show.
Their debut album, Fall Among Thieves, was recorded in Stockholm and released in 2008. Lasse Mårtén, whose credits include Pink, Peter Bjorn and John, Kelly Clarkson and Lykke Li, co-produced the record. It quickly established the trio before a run of further albums and EPs widened their sound.
Later sessions connected Baskery with producers including Blackpete, Matt Wignall and Andrew Dawson. The sisters also signed with Warner Music, while 2018 release Coyote & Sirens added another chapter to a catalogue built without sanding away the band’s unconventional character.
The strongest reason to catch this date, however, is their live experience. Baskery have played more than 400 of their own shows. In 2015 they joined Robbie Williams as opener and special guest on a European arena tour, then toured the United States with Gary Clark Jr and Brandi Carlile. Festival appearances have included Bonnaroo, Newport Folk Festival and Bottlerock.
Cluny 2 places that experience in a far smaller setting. Consequently, the band’s rhythmic drive, instrumental exchanges and three-sister chemistry should land with little distance between stage and audience.
Tickets and times
Doors open at 7:30pm. Advance tickets cost £18 plus fees. The event is for ages 16 and over, with under-18s accompanied by an adult. Tickets are available through the venue’s official ticketing partner.
