Single Review: Polyvinyl – Seasons
A stripped-back, deeply personal change of direction for Polyvinyl, as Seasons explores grief, memory and the passage of time.
A song written about the passage of time after losing a loved one, Polyvinyl’s latest single “Seasons” diverts away from their typical synth-heavy sound to something more vulnerable and introspective.
“It’s a song written in the aftermath of losing a close friend,” says lead vocalist Annabelle. “It addresses that quiet turbulence of grief: you’re watching the seasons turn and realising you’re getting older while they stay young. It becomes this one-sided conversation where you’re holding onto every memory so nothing fades.”
I do love it when a band or an artist offers a new side of themself that we’ve not really seen before, that’s what it feels like with this track. Its rawness and vulnerability come across really well. It makes you really understand what the artist must have been / is possibly still going through and also makes you tie in your own experiences with trauma and grief.
It’s a very stripped back song, which means that Annabelle’s vocals take up more space than usual. I think it’s nice to hear her voice come across so clearly without anything drawing attention away from it.
