Jake Vaadeland Brings Old-School Country Energy to Cluny 2
Jake Vaadeland and The Sturgeon River Boys bring traditional country, rockabilly and bluegrass to Cluny 2 after a landmark touring year.

Jake Vaadeland Newcastle brings the young Canadian musician and The Sturgeon River Boys to Cluny 2 on Friday 16 October 2026. Their show connects traditional country, bluegrass and 1950s rockabilly with the pace of a modern touring band.

Vaadeland comes from Cut Knife, Saskatchewan, and is a self-taught multi-instrumentalist. Although he is only 21, his recent touring figures already stand out. Vaadeland became the youngest artist to receive Road Gold certification after selling 25,000 tickets in Canada within 12 months.

That achievement gives the Cluny 2 date genuine context. It reflects sustained ticket sales across a full year, rather than one unusually large concert. Meanwhile, tours outside Canada have introduced the group’s deliberately traditional approach to wider audiences.
The music draws on storytelling as much as instrumental energy. Vaadeland writes with clear narratives and accessible themes, then places them inside arrangements shaped by country, rockabilly and bluegrass. Therefore, the older influences work as part of a living performance rather than a museum piece.
His album Retro Man… More and More captures that interest in an earlier country sound. More recently, touring with The Dead South has placed Vaadeland alongside another Canadian act known for taking roots music to large international audiences.
Cluny 2 should suit the band’s set particularly well. The room keeps acoustic detail close, while its standing format leaves space for the music’s foot-stomping momentum. In addition, the Sturgeon River Boys give the songs the drive and interaction needed for a full-band show.
No support has been named on the current official listing. Doors open at 7.30pm, and advance tickets are £20 plus fees. The show is 16+. However, under-18s may attend when accompanied by an adult.
