Bass, mandolin and fiddle combine with three-part harmony, giving the group a route through bluegrass, country, folk and Americana without losing the snap of a live string band. Doors open at 7.30pm, tickets are £12.50 and the show is 14+.
Jaywalkers at Cluny 2: Move On finds its live shape
The UK-based trio spent years touring and refining the interplay at the centre of their music before releasing Move On in spring 2025. The album pushes their established sound outward while keeping the essential conversation between the instruments intact. Powerhouse bass gives the arrangements their floor, mandolin and fiddle trade rapid melodic lines, and all three voices add a choral lift that belies the small line-up.
That balance between precision and personality is crucial. Virtuosity can create distance when every part feels like a demonstration, but Jaywalkers use technique to keep ideas moving around the stage. One player can set up a phrase, another can answer it, and the harmony can turn the exchange into a full-band surge. The result is layered without needing a large ensemble.
Move On also gives the group fresh material through which to join several related traditions. Bluegrass speed, country storytelling, folk clarity and the broader reach of Americana are treated as connected tools rather than separate genre boxes. Humour is part of that mix too, helping the music retain a human looseness even when the playing becomes intricate.
