Review by Sam Heppenstall
“Tombstone Valley” is the latest single release from South Shields own Patrick Gosling. An ode to Ennio Morricone and films such as “the good, the bad and the ugly” – Patrick shows once again how diverse his music can be in this acoustic, reverb heavy, emotional ballad.
I like the little things that make this song what it is – for instance, the double tracked acoustic guitar acting as the main focal point, whilst a beautiful synth in the chorus sections runs underneath it. There’s also a drone synth that runs throughout the song and is used to introduce the song to the listener, as well as fade it out.
Also in the chorus sections, you have this lovely bell sound in the right side of the mix, possibly a glockenspiel – (hard to tell.) It reminds me of a song called “don’t be so serious” by a band called “Low roar.” It really does make a huge difference, like I said, it’s all about the little things.
This song feels like it was a real labour of love, I’m a huge fan of any music wherein you can tell almost instantly that it’s a genuine and authentic extension of the artist and not something that just pleases the ears.
Out now – go listen!
