NW FRQNC Bring Global Jazz and Soul to Pilgrim
NW FRQNC featuring Selina Albright bring their international blend of jazz, soul and R&B to Pilgrim Newcastle on 14 October.

NW FRQNC at Pilgrim Newcastle brings an international jazz, soul and R&B line-up to the city on Wednesday 14 October 2026. The show runs from 7.30pm, tickets are £15, and Selina Albright leads a group built around musicians from several different scenes and countries.
Why NW FRQNC at Pilgrim Newcastle stands out
The line-up is the strongest reason to look beyond the basic date and venue details. NW FRQNC are led by Los Angeles-born singer Selina Albright, with the group built around members of Dutch acid-jazz band The Pact and Italian saxophonist Gianni Vancini. That mix gives the project a genuinely international starting point before a note is played.
The name is pronounced New Frequency, and the music reflects that idea. Jazz, soul and R&B sit at the centre, but the band also pulls in contemporary influences rather than treating those styles as fixed traditions. With musicians coming from different musical backgrounds, the point is not simply to recreate a classic soul or jazz sound. The appeal comes from how those backgrounds meet in one band.
Albright is a major part of that identity. Her vocal approach draws on a wide range of soul and jazz influences, while the wider group gives her enough space for the set to move between groove-led material, stronger vocal moments and more open instrumental passages. That should suit a room like Pilgrim, where detail and interplay are easier to pick up than in a much larger venue.
Pilgrim has also been building a programme that regularly crosses jazz, soul, funk and R&B, so NW FRQNC sit naturally within that wider run of bookings. Even so, the international make-up of this group gives the date a different character from the venue’s local showcases and returning North East acts.
NW FRQNC at Pilgrim Newcastle takes place on Wednesday 14 October, from 7.30pm. Tickets are £15. The event is listed as 14+, with under-18s required to be accompanied by an adult.
As always, check Pilgrim and the artist channels before travelling in case timings or event details change.
