| Manchester risers pyncher release new EP I Really Mean It This Time via cult label Heist or Hit (Westside Cowboy, Her’s, ladylike). STREAM HERE Effortlessly cool and endlessly replayable, this is an EP strutting with confidence, the sound of a band burning through their influences. Garage-rock brilliance lingers the whole way – marinated in unkempt, yelping weirdness as some kind of secret sauce. From the fizzing opener ‘One Day’ via the pining ‘Louisa’ and glitzy stomp of ‘Oh Boy’, before terminating at the wobbly, wistful closer ‘Home’, it’s a breakneck tour de force. The feeling of being different is imbued in the band’s DNA: “I write a lot about feeling alone and being different to everyone else” confesses lead vocalist Sam Blakeley. “I think that is my way of getting it all out there. I like to write about where I’m from – Steyning, West Sussex. It’s a funny place and some of the characters in my songs live there. It’s a fun place to be an observer, as it’s quite isolated from the real world.” However, what may feel like a limitation on a personal level, is actually a superpower. It’s what drives pyncher’s output to be so fresh, eclectic, and unique. They work as a counter-narrative to the dominant voices, those that want to weaponise difference as a negative. A gang of outliers that all love westerns and SpongeBob, it’s interesting to note their collective interest in outlaws and folk heroes. And perhaps that best sums up the band. Masters of their own mythology. There’s a palpable appetite for the new material. Capitalising on audience growth at home and internationally, early EP demos were shared around via an online link and CDs given away free at shows. The result has been a warm familiarity and a positive reception to the onstage patter of “this is a new one.” – rather than people going to the bar, they’re heading to the front. The EP release comes off the back of an acclaimed set at BBC 6 Music Festival in Manchester and a tour supporting The Sophs across the UK and Europe, before festival appearances through the summer. The band’s scuzzy signature sound was crafted in conjunction with producer Alex Greaves at The Nave in Leeds. The quartet find themselves as a central part of a revitalised Manchester music scene – falling in with Westside Cowboy, TTSSFU, Martial Arts and more in drawing eyes to the city. Press backing in from The Guardian, DORK, DIY, So Young, The Line of Best Fit and more, alongside spins with BBC 6 Music highlight a band on the rise.pyncher are Sam Blakeley- Lead Vocal (Singer), Harvey O’Toole- Guitar, Backing Vocals, Brittany Dewhurst- Bass, (Main) Backing Vocals, Jack Rainbow- Drums, Backing Vocals pyncher Online Website / Instagram / TikTok / Facebook / Twitter Live Dates June 19th – London, Shacklewell Arms Aug 8th – DORK’S Day Out – Manchester – YES September 27th – The Gathering Sounds Festival – Stockton October 15th/16th/17th – Swn Festival – Cardiff October 23rd – Left of the Dial- Rotterdam October 24th- Left of the Dial – Rotterdam November 26th – Brighton – Green Door Store November 27th – London – The Shacklewell Arms December 3rd – Leeds – Oporto December 4th – Sheffield – Hallamshire Hotel December 5th – Bristol – The Croft December 12th – Manchester – Soup Kitchen |
