Alex James is a North East rock project fronted by singer and songwriter Alex James Kennedy, blending classic-rock influences with a modern alternative edge. The music is built around melodic guitar work, strong choruses and lyrics that deal openly with uncertainty, resilience and the pressure to have life neatly figured out.
The 2026 single Figure It Out Now captures that approach well, using bright guitars, rhythmic shifts and a more anthemic chorus around lyrics about self-doubt and adulthood. The track forms part of The Outcast EP alongside other recent material including Quarantine, giving the project a growing body of work rather than a single isolated release.
Kennedy has also used the project to draw attention to accessibility in live music, including the practical barriers disabled performers can face. North East shows have demonstrated how relatively simple planning can make performance possible, while the songs themselves remain the strongest reason to follow the project.
