Smith & Liddle are the North East duo of Billy Smith and Elizabeth Liddle, blending soft rock, folk and West Coast soul with a strong love of 1960s and 1970s songwriting. Billy plays guitar and sings, while Elizabeth plays piano and sings, with their close vocal harmonies doing much of the work at the centre of the project.
Their debut album Songs For The Desert arrived in October 2025 through Légère Recordings. Recorded largely at Blank Studios in Newcastle with producer Josh Ingledew, the album draws on Laurel Canyon, the British Invasion and classic harmony-led records while keeping the production warm rather than overly polished.
Songs including Minute Ago, Piece Of You and Eyes On You helped introduce the duo before the album, while 2026 has brought more touring across the UK and Europe. A return to The Grove in Newcastle in October keeps that wider momentum connected to the region where the project first took shape.
